All right, I just got ICS working so that when I boot into Gentoo, I can go online via the family computer, which is XP-only and dialup, unfortunately. Is anyone aware of any tools available that will allow me to make the XP computer connect to the Internet remotely? When I'm on Windows, it's no problem, but I'm not sure how I can do it from Linux. |

Unless ICS has changed dramatically since I last looked (which is entirely possible), the simple act of making a request for an Internet site/service should trigger the routing machine to connect up. I'd suggest looking at Microsoft's support sites if this is not the case. Otherwise, maybe it's time to put a more readily securable machine at the point of connection?
By the way, if you ever decide to make a Linux box perform IP masquerading for your LAN, it'll be a snap to make the XP box work through it. _________________ Vogon poetry is of course the third worst in the Universe. -- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy |

Yeah, I thought it might be the case that just requesting something would connect it, but I wasn't sure (it's hard to tell when I have to sit there for a long time waiting if it's connecting or not).
Also, I would setup a linux box as a router, but I don't feel like going through the trouble to do it in this house when I'm only here for the summer, thank God. |
