usbhid is in /etc/autoload.modules.d/kernel-2.6. The keyboard is only required within an X (GNUStep) environment, not via the console.

I use an Apple USB keyboard with my Linux box without any problems.

In fact quite perversely I use the Apple keyboard (still plugged into the Linux box) in connection with http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/to provide an external keyboard for my MacBook pro.

The OPTION and CMD keys are swapped when done this way on the MBP, but as long as I remember this it works pretty well.

In Gnome I just have a normal keyboard selected.

Apart from the different keymap, the Apple USB keyboards are no different to a standard PC USB one.

If a USB PC keyboard works, then the Apple one will!

Cheers
Chris

Thanks everyone for your input. The keyboard and mouse work on my other Gentoo box so it should just be a matter of diffing the .config files.
