|
|
I noticed that both a new version of Compiz and an initial (stable?) version of Compiz-fusion has been released. Both of them has 0.5.2 as their version number. Seeing that Compiz-fusion is supposed to be a merge between Compiz and Beryl, what's the difference? Compiz is in portage, but Compiz-fusion is not. |

Compiz-fusion adds a bunch of plugins, a new configuration system and a gui configurator (ccsm) based on the new configuration system. In the future compiz-fusion might add more, but for now that's it. |

compiz is used by compiz-fusion.
compiz-fusion is a layer on top of compiz (the combined efforts of the compiz and former beryl teams) which adds extra features, plugins, GUI's, etc. Compiz by itself is not very useful, it requires apps that know about it and can use the functions and features it exports (ergo compiz-fusion - which is a meta file for a whole slew of programs). _________________ If God were a pickle, I'd still say "no pickle on my burger".

anyone know if compiz-fusion will make it's way into portage anytime soon? I only see it in overlays. |

Probably version 0.6.0... unless the Beryl maintainers want to add compiz fusion to their portfolio.
I suspect, that for now, we need to ensure we work out all the major kinks with the newly created 0.5.2 ebuilds in the Xeffects overlay.
Once we are confident, we can ask someone to take them on. We would need to open a bug(s) for compiz fusion and their packages in bugs.gentoo.org, and see if a maintainer can be found.
Until then, these ebuilds are available in the Xeffects overlay.
Cheers,
Rod. _________________ If God were a pickle, I'd still say "no pickle on my burger".
