Hi.

I have a T5500 core 2 duo which runs at 1.66Ghz max. On Windows, the clock speed varies depending on the load. But under Linux, I notice that it's always the same. Here is the output of $cat /proc/cpuinfo:
Code:

In E17, there's a small widget that shows the CPU clock speed, and it always shows 1000MHz. I tried the Kubuntu Live CD, and it always showed 2 CPUs at 1000MHz, too.

Is this normal? I don't know if there's some settings in the kernel that affects my CPU speed. I remember enabling CPU frequency scaling when compiling the kernel. Or, is it just the widgets not working correctly?

Thank you :)

check out your kernel config to see what cpu frequency govenor you're using - ondemand may be what you're after (assuming intel speedstep config is pretty much the same as amd)

I'm really sorry.

I had a more careful look at the applet in E17 and found out that it allowed changing the CPU frequency manually. It also had an option to set the speed automatically. (Previously I thought that was just something to display the speed). So this is just the matter of finding an appropriate applet for the desktop i'm using.

From now on i'll be more careful before posting anything. Sorry
