|
|
Every time I reboot my laptop (Gentoo, kernel 2.6.23, gnome 2.20, compiz-fusion 0.6.0) the gnome workspace switcher seems to think there is 1 workspace only. Ctrl+Alt+Right turns the cube correctly, but the workspace switcher remains at Workspace 1 (it shows no "thumbnails" except for when I'm on workspace 1 though).
In CCSM, the number of desktops is set to 1 which seems correct.
The workaround is to go to CCSM, switch from 1 to 2 desktops and then back again. After that everything works as expected (clicking the workspace switcher turns the cube).
If I click workspace 2-4 in the workspace switcher before doing the workaround above I get a completely clean desktop with no windows, no gnome panel, no nothing. Ctrl+Alt+[Left or Right] reveals nothing but empty workspaces and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Back Gnome to get it back.
Although the workaround works it's getting boring doing that every time, and it annoys me to not have a perfect setup
Another idea I had was having a macro or script doing the workaround steps (ugly, but better than doing it myself). Is that possible?
I tried the compiz forums to no avail.

I suppose you mean horizontal virtual size in ccsm, right? That's set to 4.
I don't think there's a problem in the settings, since I only have to switch back and forth to the value I started with to get a perfectly working compiz desktop... |

I'm facing the same problem !
Every time a start a new session I have to go in the CCSM to change the number of desktop to a higher value and then restore it to one. _________________ titix

Sorry, I've asked in quite a few places, forgot to post the solution here:
Add --ignore-desktop-hints to the compiz start command.
Mine currently looks like this:
Code: | compiz --replace ccp --indirect-rendering --ignore-desktop-hints --loose-binding & emerald --replace & |

Try using the flat-file backend instead of gconf. I had nothing but trouble with gconf. |
