So as far as i understand, the vertical refresh rate is out of range: Code: | (II) intel(0): Not using default mode "1280x960" (vrefresh out of range) | But what confuses me, is that in the probed modes, 1280x960 is listed, with a refresh rate well in the rang i defined: Code: | (II) intel(0): Modeline "1280x960"x85.0 148.50 1280 1344 1504 1728 960 961 964 1011 +hsync +vsync (85.9 kHz) |
Furthermore, when X is started, i can change the mode with xrandr without any problem: Code: | pcswa ~ # xrandr -s 1280x960
pcswa ~ # xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 960, maximum 1792 x 1792
VGA connected 1280x960+0+0 (normal left inverted right) 0mm x 0mm
1792x1344 75.0
1600x1200 85.0 75.0 70.0 65.0
1400x1050 74.8
1280x1024 85.0 75.0
1280x960 85.0*
1152x864 75.0
1024x768 85.0 75.0 70.1
832x624 74.6
800x600 85.1 72.2 75.0
640x480 85.0 72.8 75.0
720x400 85.0
640x400 85.1
640x350 85.1
pcswa ~ # |
So my question is: why, if i can change my display mode to 1280x960 when X is started, does X not use the mode 1280x960 at startup?
Thanks. _________________ In a world without fences and walls, who needs Gates and Windows? |

OK, have you tried removing the ModeLine from xorg.conf? _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Yeps.
Actually, i first tried without it. But when i saw the logfile, i added it, to see if it would make a difference, which it appearantly doesn't. :-) _________________ In a world without fences and walls, who needs Gates and Windows? |

Hmm. Well if this were Windows, I'd just tell you do it, like, 5 more times, and then it would work. What about commenting out HorizSync and VertRefresh? Does X correctly deduce the ranges? _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Without HorizSync and Vertrefresh, it only detects 3 available modes, and not the ones i want.
Now i've tried with VertRefresh 10-800 (to avoid out of range), and what happens is very strange: Code: | (II) intel(0): EDID for output VGA

The mode is no longer listed as unavailable due to 'vrefresh out of range' (which is logical), it is still listed in the probed modes, but still doesn't get selected.
As the log indicates, it starts up with 1152x768. Which is already better than 1024x768, but still not quite what i want.
Anyone an idea why he still refuses to select the 1280x960? I'm lost here... _________________ In a world without fences and walls, who needs Gates and Windows? |
