hey guys. I emerged 2.6.22-gentoo-r3, an update from 2.6.21-gentoo-r4. My airport card worked in 2.6.21-gentoo-r4 so long as I kept pesky networkmanager out of it's way. iwconfig FTW.
i did a good ole 'make oldconfig' and didn't compile airport support. booted into new kernel, noticed something was up.
I've found that instead of being kept at
Code: |
[*] Wirless LAN Drivers & Wireless Extensions
<*> Hermes chipset 802.11b support (Orinoco/Prism2/Symbol)
<*> Apple Airport support (build-in) |
airport support is at
Code: | Dev Drivers
network device support
Network device support
wireless LAN
Wireless Lan (IEEE 802.11)
Hermes chipset 80211b
Built in airport support |
I've found that my airport card can't pick up an ip anymore. It won't pick up an IP anymore in 2.6.21-gentoo-r4 either. I'm recompiling once more w/o the built in airport support (I'm guessing now). After this, i'll try one more router restart. pfft.
if anyone an push me in the right direction, I'd be a happy gentoo user. thanks guys
p.s. maybe it has something to do with the dhcp lease that gets picked up when my ibook pulls up a 169 address on eth0 at bootup. Maybe it's my router because the hardware hasn't picked up an IP off both kernels. hrm. |

nope not yet. I've heard that once you see a gentoo-sources update in the mix, ya should update that first and then the other software. is this an erroneous approach? I'll try updating world/dhcpcd via eth0 tonight. |

Most of the time, there's no point. It's really only important if the package consists of external modules. Even stuff that checks for certain kernel options doesn't necessarily need re-compiling. In any case, I didn't mean "Did you update dhcpcd yet?", just "Did you update dhcpcd?", so I guess the answer is currently "No." _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Hi techqbert, it seems I'm having the same issue. it work a week or so ago, then I did an update world and recompiled kernel a couple of times and now it won't connect anymore. I'll try and see if the gentoo CD does allow me to connect (rule out hardware failures). btw, do you find yours (or any other) network by using iwlist scan ?

Yes, as long as your AP is broadcasting in a manor compatible with your Airport card (i.e. 802.11b), it should show up in iwlist scan. _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |
