Is "real" transparency something that is in gnome-panel? If not, any plans in getting that in?

Seems to be the normal transparency "trick". Though it seems unnecessary to have "real" transparency on something that won't be having anything under it..

gnome-panel sometimes misbehaves with compositing window managers such as beryl or compiz. Or at least it used to do so, I've stopped using that stuff quite a while ago.

But there's no "real" transparency support for it, and I doubt that this would be on the GNOME-dev's TODO list... or at least it's far from being a top priority...

OK. What I do now is blur that part of my desktop background with the GIMP and use that as my gnome panel background. Could be better but works fine too.
