PostPosted: Sun Aug 19, 2007 2:09 am    Post subject: Font size problem in terminal windows in KDE 3.5.x [solved] Reply with quote

A few weeks ago (before KDE 3.5.7 was released, I was still on 3.5.5), I changed the config on my system to use the 4.x.x (whatever is latest) of GCC vs. what it was when I built this box 2 years ago.

In doing so, everything was re-compiled using the newest compiler.

When that was completed, the font sizes of the terminal windows are HUGE! I usually have 4 open terminal windows open, non-overlapping, and all are at least 80x25. Now, the terminal is 71x19 to have my windows open the way I usually do.

When KDE was released, I thought that it may be corrected, but it wasn't.

Then I ran revdep-rebuild a number of times until it said there was nothing to do, and still nothing's changed.

Is this a config problem that something changed on me? Or do you think something else is wrong?

Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.

Check the DPI your X server is using. Emerge xdpyinfo if you don't have it already, and find out what the DPI, resolution and screen size are according to X.

Hey.
Sorry about the late response.
If you've still got problems with the font sizes, try adding the following line to your Device section in your xorg.conf file:
Code:

Option "DPI" "96 x 96"

The current DPI settings you have aren't even (101 x 108), which can sometimes cause issues with rendering. You can of course choose a higher DPI if you want, like 101 x 101, but make sure both values are equal.
Also, if you're using the nvidia driver, you'll have to add the following to the Device section also, to disable the driver's getting of the DPI from the monitor EDID:
Code:

Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
