Web site displays in windows. but not linux [Solved]

So here's the deal...
There is a web site www.business-supply.com that I can access fine in windows, but won't come up in linux, even on a wget. The site has no windows specific content (I've seen the source code for the site).
On linux I get a 200 status code, and part of the html...then it hangs. I have a co-worker who gets the same issue on a Mac, but his wife sitting beside him on a windows box can see the site just fine.

Anyone ever heard of this before or have any suggestions? I'm pulling my hair out over this one!

Well, the title and favicon both come up...

Have you tried changing your browser's user agent string?

It would help if you could post the html you can see from windows.

Btw in windows, can it be viewed in firefox, or only ie?

Well, that was fun. I went to validate it and it hung on the w3c site.

My guess is they've got a linux server back there pulling the page down to validate it, and that linux box can't pull down the page any better than we can.

I've been looking at this for 2 days now and can't figure what would make a page stop loading and just hang when windows gets it all.

It sounds like they might have some kind of user agent checking in the script used to serve those pages. That would explain why nothing shows up in the HTML - it simply doesn't bother sending the HTML to hosts that say they aren't Windows.

Do you have any way of examining the headers your browsers (both Win and Lin) send to the server, and then copying the Windows browser's User Agent into wget ? Something like Wireshark would do the job.

I've done that by hand using the -U in wget, and also used the Firefox extension that does this, setting the user agent to that of IE 7. No dice.
Also, I believe if that were the case I should get nothing back, not a partial page?

Hmm, well wget and curl have issues with the site, so I'm thinking it's not a javascript issue.

The thought now by the network guys here is that some linux distros are using a different source port than windows and some other OSes. They are looking to see if it's a firewall issue.

So, here what turned out to be the issue (pardon my mangling of this, I'm not a network guy)

In the spring there was something added to the Linux kernel related to sliding TCP windows, apparently if the client and server agree to that they both support it, they'll use this feature.

Well, if you have a newer kernel (>2.6.6) then you have this feature. Unfortunately, the aging 4-year old firewall being used in this case didn't, but the server did. So, if the client was a modern Linux kernel based system, then the client and the server would agree to use sliding TCP windows. They would start communicating...the firewall would say "Wot's all this now?" and block the traffic the first time it went outside what it considered acceptable boundaries.

Solution for now: Disabling sliding TCP windows on the server, so the client and server don't agree to use them. Wait for an upgrade of the firewall.
