|
|
Hey,
I've recently installed Gentoo 2007.0 from the Minimal Install CD and currently I can't even "startx" at the moment due to the problem with the multiple BusID's.
I have tried messing around with it for a while but no dice.
Has anyone else solved this problem by disabling the "useless" cards on boot-up?
Is that even possible?
Thanks alot. |

Have you tried adding a BusId specifier to the driver section of your xorg.conf? You might have to try a few different bus id's to get the right one. |

Yeah, I've done that.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Or don't Dual-Boot Linux users have this kind of setup?
I don't need CrossFire in Linux, I just want to be able to run X and a decent Desktop Environment like GNOME.
The current "BusID:5:0:0" seems to eliminate the "Missing PCI Bus Identifier" errors and such.
I'll post the logs for you next time I am on Gentoo.
Until then, any other suggestions?
Thanks for the reply. |

The only other thing worth noting is that you can except some missing BusId errors even when X works, because the secondary bus id's are fakes for Windows dual head and have no function in Linux. |

Well X doesn't even seem to run at the moment.. so.. yeah.
I mean, I don't really care If X is spewing out warnings in the background.. just as long as it runs.
Hmmmmm, guess I'm just going to have to wait for Linux to get some support. |

What series are your cards? Does the open-source driver support them, or are you stuck with the binary? If you are stuck with the binary, you could try a few different versions. |

I'm using the X1950 CrossFire Edition as Master, and the X1950 XT as the Slave.
I'm not sure about the support for them though, how would I "emerge" the open-source & binary versions?
Cheers. |

You're probably stuck with binary for a while longer. That'd be the ati-drivers package, or setting VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx" in make.conf. |
