A friend is using a MAC to connect to a gentoo Server at work. I'm not proficient in linux. She is presented with a list of folders. For some reason on her mac the folders appeared twice with the same name. She deleted "one" but now both are gone. It was alot of work for an upcoming project shared with multiple people. She would really like to get it back. Is there a way to undelete the folder locally or remotely? Prefer remotely because the office is far away. Im sure she has a username/password but both of us are not proficient in unix. I am a programmer and a techie though and trying to help her. If anyone has any suggestions please help

Is the "folder" (directory) stored on the Gentoo system, or was the Gentoo system merely a gateway to the real location? What filesystem is the server using for that partition? How did she execute the delete? How active is the file server? In general, the longer a filesystem remains in use after a deletion, the more likely some other piece of data will overwrite the deleted content.

In any case, it would be far faster to restore the document from backup (or source control, if you do change tracking that way) than to try to undelete it.
