I have a lot of content for customers and potential customers on my website, and every few days some lamprey decides to suck it all down. I'm all for helping people in developing countries, but when they jam up my server with 10's of Gb's of downloads then it's time to put some brakes on.
Mostly these "users" have been from countries like China, Russia, Romania, Ukraine, Brazil, and Indonesia. I've been blocking off most of the IP's from those countries, but it's not a very efficient method. It's like waiting for your house to be broken into before locking the doors.
Is there some way of getting apache to automatically limit downloads by IP to say 1Gb per day or something like that? |
