Hi,

Got a new notebook and everything is all good apart from the DVD writer. I have tried with the standard Gnome tools, and also with GnomeBaker but I get the following error message everytime I try and write something :-

Code:
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

This is what dmesg shows on boot :-

Code:
$ dmesg | grep -i -e cdrom -e dvd -e cd-rom
ata2.00: ATAPI: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A, EX32, max UDMA/33
scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM            Optiarc  DVD RW AD-7530A  EX32 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0

and my emerge --info :-

Code:

is it perhaps looking for existent tracks? you know, like burning a multisession disc in nero ...

edit: look for another mode to burn the dvd/cd... it should say something like iso standard or so

Right below the last line with "sr0", you should have a line with "sg0". This would be the SCSI generic driver loading, and this is what you need for cdburning.

Try to burn a disk using cdrecord in verbose mode, see what it tells you. Here is an example for a rewritable disk if you're not familiar with cdrecord, replace ??? with the device.

Code:
cdrecord dev=/dev/s??? -V blank=fast
cdrecord dev=/dev/s??? -V -dao some_small.iso
