Try this when you get some time.
I think Georgia is a similar font if you are in a pinch.
Check
Code:
 esearch fonts
to see what fonts you have.
Also
Code:
find /usr/share/ -iname 'helvet'*
ight give you some clues.
However I do remember being really happy with fonts after I did that how to.

Cheers

Georgia is *nothing* like Helvetica!!

Arial is close.

Code:
eix arial && eix helvet
give me nothing, though!

How do you install either in Gentoo?

edit: this post was inspired by this metafilter thread.

You need font-adobe-100dpi for the Helvetica font.

[ Searching for file(s) /usr/share/fonts/corefonts/arial.ttf in *... ]
media-fonts/corefonts-1-r4 (/usr/share/fonts/corefonts/arial.ttf)

Helvetica is an Adobe Font...

I am not sure which package it is in, but I guess it is one of those
Code:
media-fonts/font-adobe-100dpi
media-fonts/font-adobe-75dpi

as the others are utopia fonts.

cheers
V.

EDIT: but it does not appear in the OOo dropdown menu.... :(
