|
|
In a KDE desktop window I get :
Code: | The file or folder /backup/.Trash-1000/files/Xpcoma.tmp.44 does not exist.
|
Whenever I try to empty the trash.
How can I fix this?
Thanks for any help. |

try rm'ing that manually in root.
If that doesn't work, try doing a fsck from a livecd such as knoppix.
Truly weird problem.

To: poly p man
Please be more specific.
Do you mean remove everything in that directory? Manually?
Also, fsck ?
Thanks |

Or just use rm -rd

The problem _could_ be filesystem-based. Make sure it's not mounted!

I was not able to rm the trash, it said it did not exist.
I fsck'd the drives booting from a Knoppix disk.
It fixed quite a few things but the trash error remains.
Any other help would be appreciated.
Thanks, |

What do you normally have mounted at /backup and is it mounted now? You may have deleted (to Trash, in KDE) the file /backup/files/Xpcoma.tmp.44 and are now trying to empty the trash with that filesystem not mounted. KDE's Trash metadata would have references to the trash contents on the unmounted filesystem. If this is the case, remounting the volume that has those missing files should let you empty the trash. _________________ Plants are pithy, brooks tend to babble--I'm content to lie between them.

A have this problem too on my KDE 4.3.4.
Quick solution:
1- Go to the Trash folder and create a file with the exact name of the one in the message.
E.g. in your case:
Code: | touch /backup/.Trash-1000/files/Xpcoma.tmp.44 |
2- Now try emptying the Trash Can.
Voila. No more error message. |
