I hope you don't have your home partition under cryptfs... the latest device-mapper 1.02.22 seems to break cryptfs, which could not apply permissions changes for my /tmp and I think my swap. reverting to 1.02.19-r1 make it works. symptoms: error messages at boot, and in my case, GDM could not log me to X window.
