Mouse problem with SDL games

I've got a serious mouse problem which prevents me from playing many SDL games. Every four seconds or so the mouse cursor jumps back to the center of the screen. This happens in fullscreen mode and also in windowed mode, if the game captures the mouse so that the cursor cannot leave the window.

Because of this I'm basically unable to play SDL FPS games like Hexen 2 - Hammer of Thyrion, as the view constantly returns to starting position. Even Battle for Wesnoth is only playable in windowed mode. (On the other hand, Vavoom plays just fine.)

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with SDL, but so far I've only encountered the problem when playing SDL games.

Thanks for your time, I'd welcome any ideas, solutions or similar experiences...

Try another mouse! Mice are cheap. If the problem remains, then it is a software issue?

Is this a usb-mouse?

Maybe its an idea to enable the debug feature of the games and remerge them again.
Thens start them via a terminal in the X-Session and look out for the messages.
