I am having a hell of a time consistently burning dvds.
Sometimes I will get half a dozen in a row burned without error, but then sometimes I will get a string of discs that the computer cannot read.
This is what dmesg says when I try to mount a good disc:
Code: |

And here it is crapping all over itself:

growisofs always reports the disc burned correctly, and the buffer is full the entire time. I can't figure out why it works some times and not others. I haven't had a stack of coasters this big since my first 2x CDR drive.

Have you tried running it as root? On some machines it is pretty much needed... I set-up wrapper scripts and sudo for this purpose on one of my systems which was having these troubles. |

I am beginning to think that it is only a problem when using growisofs to burn a directory of files, so when it having mkisofs make the image on the fly. When I burn ready made image files it works fine. . .I think. So far all the ones that have failed have not been ready made images. |

Well, I tried running growisofs as root, and it made a coaster on the first run.
Should this not make a perfectly readable dvd?
mkisofs -V Backup -R -f -J -o backup.iso /mnt/Local/data/
Where data/ is a directory with a dozen files and no other directories at around 4.2gb.
This will burn correctly but not always be readable. However, I have burned ISO files that I did not make and I swear they are readable every time.
Is there another way to make DVD's other than growisofs/mkisofs? |
