|
|
hello, i am having a problem with connecting to the internet from my other computer.
the symptoms are as follows:
firefox error's non lan pages as server not found pidgin fails to connect
so i thought something was wrong with eth0 and eth1 so i tried my samba share which is binded to eth0 and it worked fine and i tried my apache server which is binded to eth1.
if i change the /etc/conf.d/net to use dhcp i get the error "eth0: socket: address family not supported by protocol" and then /net.eth0 doesn't load at all
my ifconfig shows up the same as it has always.
i get the internet fine on two windows machines and one running fedora
things i have done
i thought it was the router so i reset it back to defaults
also i discovered the problem with vpnc so i unmerged it and then re emerged it.
it was just random i had rebooted since my last emerge world _________________ Come on i dare you derive me crazy

Try pinging 64.233.187.99 from the machine in question.
It's probably just DNS not working properly if everyone else on the network can do it.
Are you using DHCP?
