Is it possible to buy a Tivo series 2 and wipe the drive clean and install gentoo and MythTV?
I am looking at 500 bucks to build a PVR with a hauppauge 350 and I can get a tivo series 2 for 100 bucks, and get a bigger hard drive for 50 bucks after rebates.
From another thread I could use LVM2 to tie the two drives together as one logical volume.
any help or ideas? _________________ Abit KD7-S

I posted this here since I figured if I could get the kernel to run on this hardware the rest could be possible.
I didn't really want to put this in multimedia since I am not sure I could get even that far. _________________ Abit KD7-S

Any update as to whether you got this to work? I'd love to put MythTV of FreeVo on a Series 2. |

Tivo builds protection into the hardware so it only runs signed kernels, it can be bypassed but it takes more work IMHO than building a mythtv box. |

That was an issue addressed in GPL3. I've always found that to be amazingly sleazy on Tivo's part. They obviously knew they were violating the spirit of the GPL if not the letter. Yea...I'll take my myth boxes any day.
