Hi,

I`m fighting with gentoo installation on my new laptop and i don`t have any ideas what can I do to get this up and runnig,

I use minimal install cd 2007.0 and i can`t get my network card to run. System shows it and "ip a" command says that eth0 is up but have no carrier. I tried to get new network cable, change switch but it didn`t help (on windows network works fine).

My laptop is HP pavilion dv 6540ew. It is new hardware so i think it`s problem with drivers or something like that. On gentoo-wiki i read about problems with IRQ but there is nothing about my problem.

Network card is RTL8101, processor Core 2 duo T7300, graphic card geforce 8400M GS.

Has someone any idea how to debug this or where to look for some help ? google says nothing...

I had gentoo on my old laptop and i just can`t live without it.

I know this might be a "duh" question, but did you try running net-setup eth0?

I`ve try using everything. Starting with this script, using ifconfig and ip adderss add. I can assign IP adress, but still system show no carrier.

It looks like ethernet card is detected, it is up, module r8169 ( i thing it is responsible for this ether card ) is loaded in system. I`m worried that i will have to wait for new live cd with modules and drivers for my hardware...

If you have booted windows before it seems it's possible that windows has disabled the nic. Powering off and unplugging the machine for a while seems to reset the nic.

I had a similar problem on an AMD64 machine. Have you tried using a 2006.1 minimal install disc?

No i haven`t.

I will try it ASAP and post results.

[edit]
No luck :( 2006.1 don`t see my network card. I`ve check /lib/modules/2.6.19-7/net and there is no module fo my card.

Any other ideas ?
