Hmm, I think I can't set up correct configuration in /etc/conf.d/net. There are two wireless networks in my area, I can connect to both, but I prefer to use only one because it's faster. However, when my box is starting it almost always connects to the wrong network. I have to switch to root, set "iwconfig ra0 essid "XXX" and restart the device, then it surprisingly chooses the right one. It's not much to do but it's annoying.
What is much more surprising, I have put essid_ra0="XXX" in net file and still nothing. I have also tried setting channel and access point (I'm not sure If I haven't made a mistake), but You can guess what's happened. Now I have:
Code:
preferred_aps=( "XXX" )
blacklist_aps=("YYY" )

associate_order="forcepreferredonly"

channel_ra0="13"
config_ra0=( "dhcp" )

And nothing's changed. Just WHY setting it manually works while settings it in this file don't? Any ideas?

This doesn't answer your question directly, but I used to have problems with wireless networking until I switched to using networkmanager. I suggest you check out the Netorkmanager page on the Gentoo Wiki.

Hmm, it works with 'iwconfig ra0 essid "XXX"' in preup() function. This is funny, what is the function of essid_ra0=... then?
