|
|
I have a Gentoo file server running SAMBA, few windows desktops and one gentoo desktop.
Since I have a lot of files named in russian, I have enabled "dos charset = 866" in samba config, and that's works fine for windows machines, they sees cyrillic filenames correctly.
But my gentoo box sees them as set of squares, so I've added line "unix carset = 866" to samba config, and that works... only till I've checked windows machines and discovered that they no longer displays cyrillics correctly.
So, my gentoo server is able to serve one OS at the time, but that's of course is not acceptable.
No matter what options do I pass to mount command (codepage, iocharset, nls) - file names are displayed by squares in gentoo box, so I think the problem is on the server part. Where am I wrong? _________________ software is like sex - better when it's free!

Have you set the LC_CTYPE to russian (ru_RU)? _________________ "There will be more joy in heaven over the tear-bathed face of a repentant sinner than over the white robes of a hundred just men." (LM, 114) |

of course
gentoo box if fully aware of russian language and cyrillic characters. And, as I said, if I set "unix charset = 866", it sees those letters correctly... but then windows doesn't _________________ software is like sex - better when it's free! |

huh... I found what was wrong!
My default charset for SMB filesystems were "866", not the needed "cp866"!!!
So that was totally my fault, sorry _________________ software is like sex - better when it's free! |
