|
|
compiz-fusion works perfectly on my intel laptop, but
on my nvidia desktop not so much.
when I run fusion-icon I get an error that the ccp plugin
could not be loaded ... the same error occurs if I try to
start with "compiz --replace ccp ..."
I can start compiz with the gconf option, but I can't find in
gconf-editor where you set the dual monitor options (they
are in ccsm but that has no effect when you start with gconf
of course).
So, first, is there a multi-monitor setup area in gconf-editor and
second, any idea why the ccp plugin fails?
(this is the xeffects "stable" version of compiz-fusion BTW =
0.5.2)
Beryl still works for me however - is it possible that beryl is
somehow interfering with compiz-fusion? I am loathe to uninstall
beryl since it works well, but obviously want to eventually
switch to compiz-fusion _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

Hi,
One thought is that ccsm depends on compizconfig-python. If you updated Python recently from 2.4 to 2.5, but did not run python-updater, this package would no longer work which would, in turn cause ccp/ccsm to fail. If you try running ccsm from a terminal, does it also fail to start, and what error do you get if it does? |

I'm still using python 2.4.4-r4 (same on the intel
graphics notebook).
ccsm starts from a terminal just fine but by itself
does not try to load any plugins or start compiz
I should say this is amd64 machine with nvidia
graphics using twinview on two monitors (but,
beryl works fine and so does compiz started with
gconf).
I have no idea why the ccp plugin wont' work. _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

my system is so screwed up; there was an old
compiz package (probably installed from source) which
was hijacking the system. After I erased the offending
directories and files, the proper compiz started and loaded
just fine ... sorry for this nonsense _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

I'm running an amd64 system with nvidia graphics, but not twinview.
If you startup without fusion-icon and run this from a commandline: Code: | LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=TRUE compiz --replace ccp | Does it start up properly then?
Edit: Ah, no problem, glad it's solved! |
