Courier-imapd wont start at all after crash

After a server crash i had to manually start courier-authlib and courier-imapd.
But, while courier-authlib starts normally with the start command, courier-imapd wont do anything at all... not even an error messge or the usual *starting...* message
when i type #./courier-imapd start i get the prompt again... no message whatsoever.
nothing has changed besides the crash...anything i could check or do?
