Is framebuffer support borked in 2.5.70-r3 sources? I have had no problems with theses sources (they even caused some problems I was having with gentoo-sources to go away) except that I can not get the framebuffer to work. In the 2.5.70 link in this forum people seemed to sugest it was working, but for the life of me I cant find what I'm missing.
Here is a snipit of my .config
Code: | #
# Graphics support
#
CONFIG_FB=y
# CONFIG_FB_CIRRUS is not set
# CONFIG_FB_PM2 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_CYBER2000 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_IMSTT is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VGA16 is not set
CONFIG_FB_VESA=y
CONFIG_VIDEO_SELECT=y
# CONFIG_FB_HGA is not set
# CONFIG_FB_RIVA is not set
# CONFIG_FB_I810 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_MATROX is not set
CONFIG_FB_RADEON=m
# CONFIG_FB_ATY128 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_ATY is not set
# CONFIG_FB_SIS is not set
# CONFIG_FB_NEOMAGIC is not set
# CONFIG_FB_3DFX is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VOODOO1 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_TRIDENT is not set
# CONFIG_FB_PM3 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VIRTUAL is not set
#
# Console display driver support
#
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
# CONFIG_MDA_CONSOLE is not set
CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
# CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE is not set
#
# Logo configuration
#
CONFIG_LOGO=y
# CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_MONO is not set
# CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_VGA16 is not set
CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_CLUT224=y

I have tried ...
vga=775 (which works with 2.4.20)
vga=786
vga=789
vga=792
vga=795
I've tried both with/without bootlogo.
I've tried both with/without CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE and with/without fonts compiled in.
I've tried all this with things both compiled in and as modules. (I'v done a crap-load of compiling the last two days!)
I don't know what I'm missing. Is there something else I need? Could someone who has framebuffering working with this kernel post their .config and grub/lilo lines?
I'm new to this kernel and I sure it is just something stupid I missed because I'm not use to the different menuconfig layout.
BTW: I'm using a ati 9000 mobility and had FB working with 2.4.20 sources. I also have the both the linux and linux-beta symlinks pointing to the 2.5.70-r3 sources...don't know if that would cause a prob or not.
Thx in advance,

I am also having this problem. The 2.5.70mm3 kernel doesn't want to even acknowledge there is such thing as a framebuffer, no matter what kernel options I put in! Very irritating
I have a framebuffer running on a different box on the gentoo-r5 sources and I'm going to compile it on this machine just to make sure it's not me being stoopid. |
