Hello,
I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card, and was looking for advice on what works well and is supported. I want to have OpenGL acceleration and it would be nice if I could get DirectFB to run with acceleration as well. My big limitation is that my motherboard has no AGP slot (although the onboard video is AGP) so I'm stuck getting a PCI card. I know that some DRI drivers for example don't work with PCI cards, so I want to make sure whatever I decide upon is fully supported.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Nathan

For DirectFB the obvious choise is a Matrox (G450) card, because it's one of the only cards to have a good acceleration under DirectFB.

Look at: http://www.directfb.org/modules.xml

The Matrox-cards don't have very good 3D acceleration, however. At least not compared to GeForce or Radeon cards, but Matrox 2D is pretty good. It's said to have the best picture of the three.

I'd suggest a geforce mx440 ddr, you can get them in pci just make sure it's a ddr model as the sdr models are a lot slower. Should pay about $70usd for it. I'd also suggest one without a fan since the fan isn't needed and just adds noise plus possible failure.

Geforce doesn't really have any acceleration under DirectFb, so it's about as useful as a VooDoo under DirectFb.

Well this is an 8 month old thread now, I'm sure the guy either bought a pci card or upgraded his system with a new mobo + whatever so he could go agp (just in time for the death of agp I might add :). He said he'd like to have directfb with accelleration but opengl sounded more important, you can't have both since no cards with decent opengl performance also have any significant directfb support.

Unfortunate but true, I guess.
