Hi,

I'm currently building a new system with the plans of installing Linux and then using VMWare to setup Windows XP (to avoid the trouble of a dual-boot setup). Furthermore, I'm thinking about adding the Creative X-FI card to the list even though it isn't currently supported in Linux. However, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to let the Windows environment (through VMWare) control the card directly, so that I could at least have sound in the Windows environment.

If anyone knows if this is possible (and/or have any good documentations on VMWare setup), then please let me know!

Thanks!

Unless there's a brand spanking new way to do it, no, you can't pass through direct control of hardware like that.

However... just today a linux beta driver was released for X-Fi.

Thanks for the heads up! When I get the HW if I can get these drivers to work, then I don't need to use a pass through :)

(and yeah I've read over some of the notes, not being able to compile against gcc 4+ complicates things, but we can get around this limitation right? )
