This is really weird.
I have USB kbd and mouse attached to the pc via Belkin KVM switch. After installing gentoo from 2006 livecd, didn't have any problems.
I did emerge -uDNav world and everything still seemed fine. I had to unmerge coldplug and udev-114 emerged as part of the update.
Then I upgraded from kernel 2.6.17 to 2.6.22 and my USB keyboard and mouse stopped working after reboot.
If I unplug the USB KVM switch from the pc and plug it back in, they start working again.
If I boot back into 2.6.17 kernel, they both work.
The funny this is: I also have external USB2 hard drive connected and it gets recognized without problem on both kernels.
Anybody has any clues as to what it could be and how to handle it?

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but can I just unmerge udev and then emerge coldplug and hotplug?
Will that work?
I guess I will also need to add them to startup script?
Sorry, if I am asking dumb questions, but I am somewhat new to linux and I am having to learn every step of the way.

I'm actually getting the same thing when running on 2.6.20-r8. Have you come up with anything yet? _________________ -RBJ1128 |

No...
I am gonna try to set USB and HID to load as modules, not compiled into kernel to see if that makes a difference.
For now I will have to suffer.
I still would like to know if I can unmerge udev and replace it with coldplug/hotplug duo instead.
Is there really nobody who knows answer to this question? Or is this question so lame that no one
bothers to answer?
Maybe I should go and find Linux for Dumber and Dumberer website and
post my question there.
