dri with dell 2850

Hi all,
Does anybody managed to use direct rendering on dell 2850 (2x xeon emt64, radeon-7000 on motherboard)?
I am working on it for last week and the machine still freezes when I am starting X. Digging in older posts and other lists, does not gave me any solution.... Everyone says that there were problems with radeon 7000 but with newest Xorg and drivers it just work OK.
I am using 64 bit profile and SMP enabled kernel, and I must say that it work really fast. I have even managed to run dell openmanage (with web server) and now it turns off when water cooling (my own modification, it is quieter then normal PC now) or chassis fans fails.

what drivers are u trying to use there?

afaik the properiety drivers don't support the rad 7000 anymore, so just go try out the radeon or ati drivers that come with the xorg package. (enable them through you make.conf)

I am using xorg open source drivers, however I have already tried drivers from dell page with the same effect. In fact this issue have been reported on other formus https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/16873
X process using almost all resources but the machine is reachable via network. Anyway I just found a post:

Maybe xorg 7.2 will work for me... But if someone has any suggestions or ideas please tell me.
