|
|
I've got a new LCD on the way to replace my old CRT and want a new video card that has a DVI output. I was thinking about getting a Matrox G550, but I've read about some problems with its support for DVI under Linux. Is this still a problem in XFree86 4.3? Do I have to get the binary-only version from Matrox? And, if so, do they even work with XF4.3 (their site says the drivers are for 4.2.1)?
I would like to avoid any situation where I have to get binaries from the manufacturer. Is there a better card for basic DVI support under Linux?
Thanks. |

Okay, thanks. Does the brand matter? It seems there are a whole lot of different card manufacturers for Nvidia cards. Are they significantly different?
I was hoping to stick with completely open-source drivers, but given the current state of cards for Linux, I may just end up going with Nvidia. At least they seem to be keeping their drivers updated. |

No, they are not significantly different. If you use the latest NVidia drivers, then it should work with any Geforce card. |
