Greetings,
once again I'm troubled on the way of installing ATI's binary driver. I started by following the instructions here: http://gentoo-wiki.com/Ati, even tho I think that I completed every step correctly (Except the dlloader use flag one, which is not a selectable use flag after the last X version), I still had no Direct Rendering and my fglrxinfo would give me Mesa. After my major failure, I tried using the x11-dri package just to check it out, but I failed miserably there too (I tried that quick, and I didn't even try to understand the errors, so nevermind that). So, basically, right now, I have a screwed up system as far as video drivers are concerned. I would like some help, since I can't wait to try this new Compiz-Fusion goodie.
So... my xorg.conf:
http://pastebin.ca/717523
my lspci:
http://pastebin.ca/717525
and my kernel options:
http://pastebin.ca/717912
Please note that because of my attempt to install the x11-dri package, my xorg.conf is altered.
Also, is there a way to show you my kernel options config.?

gzip -d config.gz
cat config

I don't see why this can't go into D+E, it's about compiz, but he hasn't even got fglrx going yet.
Moved from Other Things Gentoo to Desktop Environments. _________________

#01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AR [Radeon 9600]

That card is well supported by the open source drivers so their is no need to mess with fglrx. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |

So, here are my kernel options: http://pastebin.ca/717912
Ezinky, I've tried running Beryl with the open-source drivers, and its performance was nothing compared to the proprietary one. Let alone that right now, my system is far too screwed up to try to install the open-source drivers. |

I've seen a few forum threads that seem to indicate that fglrx does not play nice with beryl. Does it even support AIGLX yet? _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |

Last time I used Beryl with fglrx (4 months ago~), it didn't. And I'm fairly sure that it doesn't support AIGLX these days, too. Well, I would like to give a chance to the open-source drivers, to be honest, but I first have to clear the mess I created. |

The commented out 1440x900 modelines are leftovers from when I switched to a 1600x1200 monitor. This config works on my two X800 radeon boxes as well. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |

I don't know what parts of your xorg.conf would be safe to add to mine, and which parts of mine would be safe to delete to make it like yours. D: |

Back up your current xorg.conf first then copy the "Device" section and change the BusID to where it is identified on your system. You should also add the Extensions section for Beryl. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |

Oh, and emerge the xf86-video-ati driver if you don't have it already. Also don't forget to switch to...
Code: |
eselect opengl xorg-x11
|
...if it is not done automatically. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |
