The install cd for 2006.1 booted up on my RS/6000 with, I assume, framebuffer video. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I did have video for the console. I even had a penguin at the top of the screen.
Now, after compiling kernel 2.6.16.46, I have no video at boot-up. Could it be that I didn't compile in a framebuffer driver I need? I'm using either a GXT3000 or GXT2000, I don't remember which I have in which computer. Anyways, is there some kernel driver I should be enabling, that maybe I'm not? Perhaps OF framebuffer? _________________ Greg

Yeah, most likely it's the OpenFirmware framebuffer. You could also try the config from the LiveCD if you know that works. The kernel on the LiveCD keeps a copy of the config it was built with in /proc/config.gz (After you've booted). _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

I just recompiled the kernel with OF framebuffer and was rewarded with a penguin. The video works now, at least in text mode. There's a certain amount of satisfaction logging into my user account for the first time on a functional system. _________________ Greg |
