new install/alsa question

Hi
i just reinstalled gentoo (had rc6 before but did some repartitioning and wanted to start all over again). i emerged the base system and emerged kde3 . After that i merged alsa, the 0.9 beta because 0.5 has some issues with my soundcard (hercules gametheater pro, cs46xx-driver).
The question is what packages need recompiling for alsa too work?
Whole of kde? kdemultimedia?
