A couple of days ago, I wrote some stuff that accidentally created a file /home/me/~/.scan - deleted it using rm but without engaging brain soon enough and lost a chunk of home directory. I've got a relatively recent backup so got my own files back ok, but I've lost settings for other stuff - kde 3.5.7 (appearance), kmail (address book and accounts), korganiser (all my stuff), juk (playlists).
None of this stuff has really changed in the 2 weeks since the last backup so I must have it somewhere. All the things acted like it was the first time they'd run so I thought it would be easy(tm) to find the changed local config files. No luck so far, can anyone please point me at where the above store their settings?

should all reside in your ~/.kde directory (maybe ~/.kde-version) |

Thanks
One of the first things I tried was copying over the .kde* directories/files and it didn't help at the time, but I now think its because the .kde I copied as directory not a link to .kde3.5
I ended up moving the mangled home directory to a safe place and restoring it from the backup - that got all my config settings back. Since then I've been moving the surviving stuff back in from the broken copy - I've lost a few files I changed in the last couple of weeks but nothing major. |
