Can i ask why in mplayer ebuild is hardcoded the path to realplayer libs to /opt/Realplayer/lib (or something similar) instead of /usr/lib/real ?
I tried to change it by hand and it work without the need to have realplayer emerged but only win32codecs with +real use.
Are there any disavantage in doing this ?

I think not many people want to have N mediaplayer for N codecs or am I wrong ?

Because there are two sets of real libs. win32codecs and RealPlayer's.

Just install both, and you'll have all the available real libs there are.

I think that it's more like three :P

Mplayer can natively play most real media just ok without win32codecs nor realplayer. For the few ones that will fail, you can try those two. But I don't have any of them installed and don't usually find anything I can't open with the standard mplayer (I'm on amd64, so I don't really have much options anyway, unless I use mplayer-bin).
