I tried it with iwconfig only, with wpa_supplicant and xsupplicant, but it will not establish a connection - dhcpcd will always timeout.
Actually it will hang in "FORCED AUTHENTICATED" state, which I don't understand, because I have no user/pass to auth with.
Here's the output from the tools...

Code:

>iwconfig

eth1
      IEEE 802.11b/g  ESSID:"opennet"  Nickname:"Broadcom 4311"
      Mode:Managed  Frequency=2.472 GHz  Access Point: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
      Bit Rate=1 Mb/s   Tx-Power=18 dBm
      RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
      Encryption key:off
Link Quality=56/100  Signal level=-78 dBm  Noise level=-69 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:1  Rx invalid frag:0
      Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

>ifconfig

eth1
      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
      inet6 addr: fe80::21a:73ff:fe43:1aa8/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING ALLMULTI MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
      RX packets:251 errors:0 dropped:35 overruns:0 frame:0
      TX packets:482 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
      collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
      RX bytes:31090 (30.3 Kb)  TX bytes:78312 (76.4 Kb)
      Interrupt:255

>xsup_get_state

Interface eth1 is now in FORCED AUTHENTICATED state.

I do not own broadcom but I know that driver is not the best one.
When you can see the bssid of the router (xx:xx..) then your authenticated like you already stated.

Is dhcp server running on your wlan ap? Did you already tried with another card?

my tips:

- deactivate b/g and set exactly to the mode of ap (b only / g only)
- b is more robust than g but has less transfer
- try to set ip by manual.

for more help post your kernel version, broadcom is a kernel module isn't it?
emerge --info is also interesting!

Yes, the xx:xx.. is a regular bssid from the Router which is running dhcp, as I checked with windows..:(
I already tried to use the IP, nameserver, gateway from windows, but had no luck.
I tried vanilla and gentoo kernel-sources (2.6.22.6) with the same result.

Code:

Did you've found any solution?

What does dmesg says if you perform

Code:
ifconfig eth1 down

Code:
ifconfig eht1 up

or alternatively

Code:
dhcpcd -d eth1

As broadcom is kernel module what are your kernel options?
