how about:

Code:

emerge --sync
emerge -av skype

Current version of skype is 1.4.0.99 so might happen that older is no longer available.

From /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
Code:
# Gustavo Felisberto <humpback@gentoo.org> (16 Jun 2007)
# Starting 19 Jun 2007 Skype no longer provides download files for releases
# 1.2 and 1.3 so if you already have the distfiles unmask skype < 1.3
# If you do not have please help test the 1.4 release and have it marked
# stable.
<=net-im/skype-1.4.0.0
So, as Dagger suggested, please sync and install one of the newer Skype versions. The latest version, 1.4.0.99, works fine for me.

Hi,

thanks for your reply, I finally was able to install it.
But now I have an error updating it:
Code:

mylaptop max # emerge -avuDN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies... done!

i also tried USE="-qt-static" but get the same error.

The first line indicates you have not set the qt-static USE flag, which is why there is a "-" in front of it - if you do not set a USE flag, it is disabled by default. The resulting message is telling you to do one of two things - either add the accessibility and dbus USE flags to a line in /etc/portage/package.use for x11-libs/qt and rebuild that package, after which you can build skype with -qt-static (i.e. dynamically linked against your existing copy of qt 4), or add a line in that file for skype with the qt-static USE flag set which will let you build skype with a static copy of qt included. The latter will probably take much less time as qt takes quite a while to build.

So if you want to do the first:
Code:
echo "=x11-libs/qt-4* accessibility dbus" >> /etc/portage/package.use

For the second
Code:
echo "net-im/skype qt-static" >> /etc/portage/package.use

After either one, try rebuilding skype.

Note that it is also possible to set USE flags in /etc/make.conf, but those will apply to all packages in your system. It usually makes more sense to set them individually in package.use unless you want to apply a USE flag to a lot of different packages.

For more information on how Portage works, the first 3 chapters in the "Working with Gentoo" section of the Gentoo Handbook will help you out. After that, "man portage" and "man emerge" will supply more details.

I'm glad I could help! :D

Now, if you would just edit the original post subject to include "SOLVED" others might benefit as well.
