Hiya!

OK, I'm not 100% sure this is the correct place to post this question, so I'll apologize up front if this is the wrong fourm :)

I'm in New Zealand, and the government here has started daylight savings time 3 weeks early this year (which, personally, I'm thrilled with). The problem is, though, that with NZ being on the edge of the date line, we are now a full 24 hours ahead of a few places (check the current times in Auckland and Apia on www.timeanddate.com to see what I'm talking about) and my ntpd client seems a bit confused!

For some reason, setting the clock via ntpdate is not recognizing the new time (even syncing with nz.pool.ntp.org), and I cannot simply say I'm in a timezone that is an hour ahead of where I am for the next three weeks because, well, there isn't one!

Any idea how I can fix this, or at least make a workaround for the next three weeks? If I have to remember the time is wrong for the next three weeks, I'm more than likely going to miss an appointment or two... :(

Cheers!

As a kiwi I have no problems (this is correct):
Code:
# ntpdate nz.pool.ntp.org
30 Sep 17:15:55 ntpdate[5995]: step time server 218.185.224.6 offset 0.587058 sec

what version is your sys-libs/timezone-data ?
Code:
equery l sys-libs/timezone-data

You should be on 2007f. I am, and my time switch over this morning fine.

Hmmm....
Code:
# ntpdate nz.pool.ntp.org
 1 Oct 07:25:08 ntpdate[20107]: adjust time server 203.109.252.7 offset 0.002673 sec

Which is wrong by one hour at the time I'm typing this. Also, I have
Code:
$ equery l sys-libs/timezone-data
[ Searching for package 'timezone-data' in 'sys-libs' among: ]
 * installed packages
[I--] [M ] sys-libs/timezone-data-2006p (0)

which does sound a bit old. I'll try updating ntp and the library and see if that does it...

Cheers!

EDIT:

Did:
Code:
$ emerge ntp timezone-data

And still getting the wrong timezone. And timezone-data is now 2007g... :(

EDIT number 2:

Sorry, restarted computer, that seems to have kicked-in the update :)
