New to VLC and putting it through its paces. Very nice performer but failed one test - no audio from a .mov file. This is the output from the command line.
Code: | $ vlc Documents/clips/soccer128.mov
VLC media player 0.8.6c Janus
[00000323] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `Qclp'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000271] main playlist: stopping playback |
Xine has also failed audio output with this file but mplayer handles it fine. I would like to keep this installation fairly trim so if possible not install mplayer now that I have VLC.
I found this information: "Qualcomm audio stream (fourcc: Qclp) is found in MOV/QT files. It can be decoded with QuickTime libraries. For installation instructions please see the Sorenson video codec section." at: http://web.njit.edu/all_topics/Prog_Lang_Docs/html/mplayer/codecs.html - hence the mention of Qualcomm in the post title.
The use flags for VLC do not appear to include quicktime.
Code: | media-video/vlc-0.8.6c USE="X a52 alsa bidi cdda dts dvd flac gnutls hal httpd live matroska mp3 mpeg ncurses ogg opengl oss png sdl stream svga theora vcd vlm vorbis win32codecs wxwindows xv -3dfx -aalib (-altivec) -arts -avahi -cddb -corba -daap -dc1394 -debug -directfb -dvb -esd -fbcon -ggi -jack -libcaca -libnotify -lirc -mod -musepack -nsplugin -optimisememory -rtsp -samba -sdl-image -seamonkey -shout -skins -speex -svg -truetype -upnp -v4l -x264 -xinerama -xml -xosd" 0 kB |
I used all the flags recommended at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-gentoo.html |
