I just tried to install gentoo on OSX by using this guide to bootstrap: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gentoo-alt/prefix/bootstrap-macos.xml

Sadly it fails at "./bootstrap-prefix.sh $EPREFIX/tmp wget" because it can't find cc1:

Code:
gcc version 3.3 20030304 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 1819)
configure:2019: $? = 0
configure:2021: gcc -V </dev/null >&5
gcc: `-V' option must have argument
configure:2024: $? = 1
configure:2047: checking for C compiler default output file name
configure:2050: gcc -O2 -pipe   conftest.c  >&5
gcc: installation problem, cannot exec `cc1': No such file or directory
configure:2053: $? = 1
configure: failed program was:

I have Xcode installed, and cc an gcc can be accessed.. So what's wrong here?

My install worked fine most of the way until I had to upgrade my Xcode to the latest version which fixed my issue. Maybe you should try that.

I've done an install back in September using the same procedure as yourself. It installed flawlessly. (You can only imagine, my surprise). Now I'd like to see what I can do with it, though. I'm hoping to using it as my primary package manager, but i need to get X11 on it.

I am running Mac OS X 10,4,10 on a PPC G5, with the lasted Xcode tools installed.

I like the ease and use of these Gentoo forums, but for this particular group, gentoo-alt, I find that there is more happening on the mail-list front.

Good luck!

It looks like the first sign of compiling problems start with the line:
Code:
gcc: `-V' option must have argument

It could be that your compiler is busted. Update to the latest gcc version GCC 4.2.2 and then try again.

I'm no expert in this but that is where I would start.

Cheers

Use gcc_select to switch back to a 4.0.1 compiler. Something may have gone wrong in your switch causing the compiler not to be able to find its own cc1.
