hi all!

i recently booted to kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r8. before building this new kernel i copied the old .config to the new directory and made a "make oldconfig". now after using "sensors" in the command line i get this output:

Code:

area52 ~ # sensors
k8temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
Core0 Temp:
             +24 C
Core1 Temp:
             +32 C

it8716-i2c-9191-290
ERROR: Can't get adapter or algorithm?!?
VCore:     +1.02 V  (min =  +0.00 V, max =  +4.08 V)
VDDR:      +3.23 V  (min =  +0.00 V, max =  +4.08 V)

+5V:       +4.73 V  (min =  +0.00 V, max =  +6.85 V)
+12V:     +11.52 V  (min =  +0.00 V, max = +16.32 V)
in5:       +0.00 V  (min =  +0.00 V, max =  +4.08 V)   ALARM
in6:       +0.00 V  (min =  +0.00 V, max =  +4.08 V)   ALARM
5VSB:      +4.68 V  (min =  +0.00 V, max =  +6.85 V)
VBat:      +2.96 V
CPU Fan:  1610 RPM  (min =    0 RPM)
Case Fan120:
           876 RPM  (min =    0 RPM)
CPU Temp:    +35 C  (low  =    -1 C, high =  +127 C)   sensor = diode
M/B Temp:    +32 C  (low  =    -1 C, high =  +127 C)   sensor = thermistor
vid:      +1.100 V

does anyone know what this "ERROR: Can't get adapter or algorithm?!?" message means?? having my former kernel booted displays no such message.
do i have do reinstall lm_sensors or am i missing an option in my kernel config??
restarting lm_sensors returns no error message. everything seems to be ok.

hope someone could help me with this...

greets

I get the same error (I'm on a ASUS M2N-E with an Athlon X2 4000+)

I remember checking around and saw a comment that these chips are only fully supported in the latest version of lm_sensors ... which hasn't made it into portage yet :( So I'm just waiting for portage...

You mean lm_sensors worked properly before on your M/B?

Hi,
I am trying to install lm_sensors with the same kernel.
I gave up after having read on lm-sensors.org that 2.6.22 is giving problems.
I unmasked 2.10.4 but still no luck.
sensors-detect wants a module w83627ehf to be loaded but this module
doesn't exist.Closest is w83627hf but it won't load.
So I'll wait until this is all sorted.
(I noticed the lm-sensors.org site is almost impossible to reach.)
Gerard.
Edit: I am on Asus P5W DH Deluxe Intel duo2core.

hi!

ok, thats good news to read lm_sensors has problems with 2.6.22 kernel... so there is hope that this is fixed.

@Gerard van Vuuren: i think the pw5dh deluxe uses a sensor that is not supported yet by lm_sensors. same here with my new m2n-sli deluxe am2 board - i also have to wait for hw support of my chips...

@snIP3r,
Sensors-detect finds a Winbond sensor and also i801 (Intel).
But it also wants a module "eeprom"!
If you ask me it is totally screwed up.
Well I'll wait a couple of months.
Gerard.

hi gerard!

there exists a module named eepom - i have it loaded here in my config:

Code:

area52 ~ # lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
it87                   23632  0
k8temp                  7296  0
eeprom                  8784  0
i2c_nforce2             7552  0

the kernel config for this is:

Code:

CONFIG_SENSORS_EEPROM=m

under "Miscellaneous I2C Chip support" section

When I click on Miscellaneous I2C Chip support I get a blank screen.
I tried setting all kinds of things but it refuses to show anything but a blank screen.
I still have all the files of gentoo-sources 2.6.20-r8 I will try that tomorrow.
Gerard.

you can also try to modify the .config file with your favourite editor...

Yes I guess so but then there should be a file called something like eeprom.c
in /usr/src/linux/drivers/hwmon.
I did find w83627hf.c and w83627ehf.c.
Why the latter doesn't show up in menuconfig is beyond me.
Gerard.

Well my problems have been solved, weird story though!
When I upgrade kernels I always use
Code:

make oldconfig

with the .config file of the older kernel.Saves time.
Today I found the eeprom.c file which is not in hwmon but
in I2C.
I then saved my .config file and did
Code:

make mrproper

and started
Code:

make menuconfig

This time the misc I2C chipsets didn't show up as a blank page!
I also could find the w83627ehf module!
Something must have happened doing oldconfig.
Anyway lm_sensors now works!
Gerard.
