|

Would Gentoo linux install on a IBM eServer xSeries 360 or 440 SMP machine, where IBM seems to use it's own XA-32 chipset? They have four Xeon MP CPUs, dual or quad-core.
IBM's own documentation says that Linux is possible, but they only provide support for Red Hat and SuSE.
Are IBM's own drivers for machines of that type available in a vanilla kernel or only via designated linux distributions? Could I use the drivers IBM provides for RedHat or SuSE also within Gentoo?
Thanks for your help

Looks somewhat promising here:
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/x86_64/boot-options.txt
Code: | 4. <arch/x86_64/pci-calgary.c> : IBM Calgary hardware IOMMU. Used in IBM
pSeries and xSeries servers. This hardware IOMMU supports DMA address
mapping with memory protection, etc.
Kernel boot message: "PCI-DMA: Using Calgary IOMMU"
Settings for the IBM Calgary hardware IOMMU currently found in IBM
pSeries and xSeries machines:
calgary=[64k,128k,256k,512k,1M,2M,4M,8M]
calgary=[translate_empty_slots]
calgary=[disable=<PCI bus number>]
panic Always panic when IOMMU overflows |
Best advice give it a shot. |
