|
|
I have a Radieon 9200SE [128mb] video card running on the ATI-Drivers 8.28 [the last of the support for the offical drivers]. I am having trouble getting the latest updates for my machine because of the newly released xorg 1.3 and ati-drivers 8.39.4.
I'm getting a blocked package:
blocks B ] x11-apps/ati-drivers-extra (is blocking x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.39.4)
How would I go about fixing this problem? I can't upgrade the ATI-Drivers because then I'll lose support for my card (thanks a bunch ati) and I do need 3D support (for games). |

Why aren't you using the open source drivers? The 3D works fairly well with cards up to and including the Radeon X800, and they pretty much supported the 9200 from the time it was manufactured since it is based on the r200 chipset like earlier ATI cards. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |

All of the websites I've checked claim that there is no support for 3D in the opensoure drivers.. you hace to go with ATI's drivers. |

I have the Radeon 9250SE 128M, Radeon 9000M 32M, and a Radeon AIW 8500DV 64M and they all work fine under the opensource radeon-drv. DRI works just fine, IIRC all three of these with the opensource driver was faster or at least about as fast as my GeForce4 MX420 using Nvidia's closed source driver (well, the 8500 wasn't just a bit faster, it's about 2x as fast...) _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

That is only true for newer cards. ATI provided the specs for their earlier cards and open source developers reverse engineered some the later ones up to and including the X800 series. In addition, AMD has promised to help with development of drivers after they bought out ATI by releasing specs for even newer cards. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |
