COMPLETELY NEW TO GENTOO, NEED QUESTIONS ANSWERED REGARDING

I am new to gentoo. To the point: I keep hearing about this "emerge command" Does this mean that when I boot the stage one cd it loads a image of linux from wich I can connect to the internet and then download the appropriate drivers or packages? I also downloaded the stage 3 cd. Can anyone help me get started or show me where I can get a html or pdf instructions.
