|
|
I left an 'emerge -Dv world' running last night and came in today to an apparently dead system. Before rebooting I tried ssh-ing in from a different machine, which worked. After finding out that it crashed sometime in the early hours of the morning, I rebooted. The system booted normally, but the keyboard didn't work. I ssh'ed in and rebooted. The keyboard works for the boot menus and while I'm in GRUB, but once I boot my (unchanged) kernel, no keyboard!!!
I'm completely stumped! Any suggestions of things to start with would be greatly appreciated. I can guarantee that the keyboard works (I have a KVM that plugs into a Windows box that I'm writing this on, plus the fact that it works in GRUB).
The machine is a dual-Opteron AMD64.
Note: just so you know, I boot into the command prompt and run /etc/init.d/xdm by hand everytime because the machine stays up for weeks at a time, and I hate to be surprised by X problems. This is NOT an X issue. I get no response from the keyboard at all. The Numlock likght is on, but that's it. Caps Lock doesn't cause a light to turn on, for example.
Here is a list of the thing I emeged last night and an emerge --info:

Well, after a desperate flurry of activity (added a second USB keyboard, added "acpi=off" to my kernel options in GRUB and reboot) I'm up and running.
I don't have time for troubleshooting until tonight. Any ideas where to start? I can't see anything interesting in my logs so far.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
PS: this is my PC at Work. If anyone found out that I had hassles like this, they'll try to drive me back to Windows.
BTW: my mouse was dead to. Maybe a USB issue? I'll add more tonight. _________________ I need a better signature... |

It been a few weeks, and several reboots, and the problem is gone for good it seems. I guess it was just ummm.... I can't even imagine what it might have been. _________________ I need a better signature... |
