|
|
OK, my network browsing using samba has been working for sometime however in Konqueror i can only access other windows shares by entering the address manually in the address bar, ie
Code: | smb://hostname/share |
but not from the LAN browser in the navigation panel. All of the computers on my network show up in the panel however when i click on them they only lead to a SMB folder that contains nothing. Also the address bar says something weird when i try to goto on of the computers from the LAN browser:
Code: | lan://localhost/hostname/SMB |
Anyone know why this is happening??? |

Using smb:/ works fine to show up all the workgroups and going from there into my own workgroup also works fine, however, when i try to enter another workgroup sometimes (some workgroups work) it gives me the error
smb:/WORKGROUP => "cannot connect to localhost"
smb://WORKGROUP => "could not connect to host WORKGROUP"
Or instead of loading up the workgroup and displaying all the available computers it goes straight to a list of shares available on one computer in particular, don't know which one. I tried accessing the same workgroup through xfsamba and initially it wouldn't work however it seemed to change master computer for that workgroup and then it worked fine. The browsing in konqueror however does not
Any ideas? |

smb:/MACHINENAME works for me, but not smb:/WORKGROUP. Also, I've never gotten the lan:/ thing working. I can use lan:/ to browse local anonymous ftp, but not samba shares. _________________ I bent my wookie. |

hmm i do smb:/WORKGROUP in Nautilus (Gnome) and everything seems to work fine. But if I want to connect to the machine I have to type smb://machine/C$ or whatever the shared folder is. Samba 3.0 is comming out soon which should make this much better I believe. _________________ >>>>> Ignorance is bliss <<<<< |

I use a program called LinNeighborhood which scans available Windows shares and autmatically mounts them as needed. It's in the portage tree.
This program made my life so much easier. |

I can add some other info...
I have just installed a new computer on my lan, with windows 2000. the strange thing is that I can access to this computer only. It is called 'virtual' so smb://virtual WORKS!! but it doesnt work with all other machines on my network. I have look its TCP/IP configuration... and I have found that it has the NETBIOS over TCP/IP enabled while others pcs not. So I have changed this setting on the others but nothing at all.. im stalled.
think to find a solution!
