is there any way to, without restarting x, switch from

Code:
Option         "TwinViewOrientation"     "TV-0 RightOf CRT-0"

to this?

Code:
Option         "TwinViewOrientation"     "TV-0 LeftOf CRT-0"

that may not even be what im looking for, but it seems it may do the trick.

say the CRT screen default has "A" on it and the TV default has "B", the second config would be the CRT has "B" and the TV has "A", id like to be able to switch from the default config and the second config freely without rebooting anything. possible?

Code:
# emerge -av nvidia-settings

You can tweak quite a few X settings without restarting X, including display positioning, resolution and depth, which I assume is what you're looking for...

Except that this confuses most Window Managers I know of - and doesn't really work that well and it requires you to start up a GUI just to get that done.

I would really love to see some command line method for doing this - mainly because I would like to have it in a script/as an executable my WM could call on a key-combination I give it.[/bug]

Well, never had any issues on Xfce =)
And, at least for me, starting up a GUI is a trivial issue... after all it is the behaviour of a running X that we're trying to modify here.

nvidia-settings has a command line interface though.
Code:
nvidia-settings --assign parameter=value

Only thing is that it doesn't seem to support changing the TwinviewOrientation on the fly.
A nvnews forum thread appears to verify this.

Edit: the same thread mentions a workaround: create a metamode with your alternative orientation and use xrandr to switch

Thanks, ziller - I'll look into it. Sounds promising, I think my WM (XMonad) supports XRandr
