IPtables and MASQ

My friend and I can't get IP tables working. I have followed the instructions below, to the T. However, no go.

My kernel is gentoo-sources and I emerged iptables. Basically it doesn't seem to be loading and the test scripts there. It gives errors saying that the modules can not be loaded. Modules for other things load so I don't know.
